The Cult Temple of Amun-Ra at Karnak, East Bank at Luxor

The sprawling temples at Karnak are the result of generations of builders who expanded and embellished the site for their gods and pharaohs.  Karnak remains the largest surviving religious complex in the world and is spread over an area of around 247 acres.

We got there around 10am, which wasn’t late enough to beat the crowds, but it takes around three hours to view the site properly, so by the time we were leaving the sun was at it’s hottest and so the crowds were at their thinnest.

The temple is located around 2.5 kms away from the city of Luxor, and is reportedly the biggest temple complex ever built by humans.
